Honest Prosper Ngowi (PhD Economics) is an Associate Professor of Economics at Mzumbe University. Prior to his appointment to the position of Principal of Mzumbe University Dar Es Salaam Campus College in July 2018, he was head of the Department of Short Courses, Research and Consultancy. Ngowi has researched, consulted, lectured and published widely. His publications include more than 100 academic pieces, 80 research and consultancy reports and over 2000 newspaper and magazine articles in economics, business and related areas.
He has been a member of various board of directors including Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC), Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF), Foundation for Civil Society, SWISS Aid, Restless Development, Envirocare, University of Stellenbosch Business School (South Africa), Southern Agricultural Growth Centre of Tanzania (AGCOT) Ltd and Equity Bank Tanzania. He has also served in the position of Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the University of Bergen, Norway.
As a public intellectual, he is an economics and business columnist in various newspapers including Mwananchi (a Swahili daily every Thursday); The Citizen (every Saturday for over 10 years); and commentaries in various radios and television stations (including the hosting of a weekly television programme on Independent Television, Tanzania) focused on economics and business. Ngowi produces an online videocast, Ngowi TV (www.ngowitv.co.tz) focusing on economics, business and development issues. He is multilingual with fluency in English, Norwegian and Kiswahili, with working proficiency in Danish and Swedish.
