Marja Hinfelaar is the Director of Research and Programs at the Southern African Institute for Policy and Research (SAIPAR) and Honorary Senior Research Fellow at The University of Manchester. An historian by training (PhD Utrecht 2001), she also works on contemporary Zambian politics. Recent projects include ESID’s politics of natural resources project, coordinator in Zambia of Valueworks: Effects of Financialization along the Copper Value Chain (with University of Basel), and Investigating ‘pockets of effectiveness’ in developing countries: a new route to building state capacity for development (with University of Manchester). Much of this work features a focus on the Ministry of Finance, Bank of Zambia and Zambia Revenue Authority. She has lived and worked in Zambia since 1997.
